Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t. However, the cost of sending 1, 2 or 3 pallets will be the same as for 4 pallets. This is because we need a minimum value for the load to make it worthwhile for our linehaul drivers to make an extra pick-up and delivery.

This will depend on the route and how quickly we can find a driver to take your booking. Some routes, like Sydney – Melbourne or Sydney – Brisbane can typically be done overnight. So if we can find a driver on the day you book your shipment should arrive the next day. Naturally, the earlier in the day you book the greater the chance that we’ll find a driver on the same day. Note that other routes, like Sydney – Adelaide or Melbourne – Brisbane will always take a minimum of 2 days as our drivers need to comply with strict rules around how many hours they can work before having to take a break.

After you get your quote and complete the booking form, we’ll be in touch to confirm if we’ve been successful in finding someone to take your load.

After we’ve found a driver to take your shipment we’ll arrange secure payment by credit card or EFT. Note that if paying by EFT the funds have to clear before we can dispatch the driver to pick up. All bookings must be paid for prior to pick-up.

If there are any unforeseen issues and your driver doesn’t arrive on the day they are due you can request another driver be found or ask for a refund.

Yes – as long as it can be loaded and unloaded by a forklift. Skids, crates and non-standard pallets can be sent and you will be charged for the equivalent of a 1.2 x 1.2m pallet space. For example, PVC piping sent on a 3m x 1.2m skid would be calculated as taking 3 pallet spaces.

We charge the same rate for any height of pallet up to 2.4m tall. However, many of our drivers have trucks with mezzanines and these can only take pallets up to 1.5m tall. Therefore, tall pallets may limit your ability to connect with a driver on the day you want to ship.

No. GST is the only extra to the quoted price.

No. We require that all shipments have forklifts available to load and unload.

Indie Freight Direct has different rates for each interstate route. This is determined by the supply & demand for getting freight from each city. Our Homepage has a Freight Calculator which provides the cost of different combinations of pallets (or equivalent pallet spaces) for each route we service.

We can try. At present our owner-drivers do linehaul work which is from capital city to capital city. However, if you want to send freight to or from a regional centre to a capital city, we can check if anyone can cover this and get a price for you. Large cities like Newcastle or Geelong will be easier to cover. Small country towns will be harder to service.

No. Neither Indie Freight Direct nor any of the owner-drivers in our network can be considered common carriers. Please refer to the Shipper Terms & Conditions for your obligations when using our services.

While some of our independent owner-drivers are licensed to carry Dangerous Goods, they represent a minority of the drivers in our network. If you have a need to ship DG’s send through your request and we will check if someone is available. Please note that shipments of DG’s are charged at a premium to the standard prices on our Freight Calculator.

As per our Shipper Terms & Conditions, if the measurements and/or weights you enter in your booking form do not match actual values for your cargo, the driver may refuse to pick up your consignment. This is because it may risk them being over their allowable weight limit or because they may not have space. If the dimensions do not match the booking form and the driver DOES take your load, we will then invoice you for the extra charges which should have been applied had the measurements been correct.
